Parables written in Matthew and Luke were the direct discourse of Jesus Christ. Parables are stories providing a vision of life and used to help individuals to make a decision. Parables have been referred to as cryptograms and oral picturesque art that moves the mind. The secret message of the parable is meant to enlighten and help the hearers and seers to understand the mysteries of the Kingdom of God and the world in which they live. Some believe that parables are comparisons, similes, metaphors, or basic messages used to aid the interpreter. During biblical times, after listening to parables many who were weary, yoked, and heavy laden were blessed, encouraged, hopeful, healed, and given rest for their souls. Parables exposed wrongs, warned of future judgment, gave a different perspective, provided preparation for future events, and bestowed grace toward many. In parables, hidden things were uttered, teachings about the Kingdom of Heaven were effectively taught, wisdom was spoken, the will of God was revealed, and the miraculous power of Jesus was demonstrated. Evangelistic parables spoke of loving sacrifices made, how the righteous will shine as the sun, and a place where all nations of righteous individuals would gather.
