Throughout our lives, we mentor, advise, encourage, lead in righteousness, spur on, and train others. Sometimes our mentoring is planned and intentional and other times it is through fellowship, by our walk and ensample to others. It may start with your church's women's and men's ministry, a bible study, or someone's request. You may have questions like; Where do I begin, what should I do, how often should we meet, where are the spiritual resources to help me, who should I mentor and why, and when does mentoring need to stop and the suggestion of professional counseling begin?
Here are some books suggestion to read on your journey of exploring ideas of how to best serve others by mentoring.

Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.
Proverbs 2 Authorized (King James) Version
2 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;2 so that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;3 yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;4 if thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;5 then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.6 For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;11 discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:12 to deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;13 who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;14 who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;15 whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:16 to deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;17 which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.18 For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.19 None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.20 That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
2 Corinthians 8:1-5 KJV
1 Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia; 2 how that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality. 3 For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves; 4 praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints. 5 And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
that which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
